Kids Art Journal - Believe You Can

Today's art journaling with my kids featured some fun wet-on-wet watercolor, pretzel salt and Zig dot markers. We followed a tutorial from Let’s Make Art, which has a lot of great and easy tutorials for both watercolor and art journaling. Here are the steps we took to make our pages:

1) Draw a circle using something round as a template. We drew with a light gray watercolor pencil so that the line would disappear when our watercolors were added.

2) Wet the circle with water only.

3) While the circle is wet, add watercolors. We used black, blue and fuchsia (the darkest color on the page is a mix of black and blue).

4) While the paint is still wet, sprinkle pretzel salt and leave in place.

5) Add a wash of black-blue paint to the rest of the page. Avoid touching the circle unless you want the colors to bleed out.

6) Wait for everything to dry or do what I did and use a heat gun to speed up the process.

7) Using a Zig dot marker, add dots of varying sizes to the page. We used a rule to help make straight lines. I used a metallic gold marker and my kids chose silver.

8) Print a quote and glue it onto the page. The quote I chose is by Theodore Roosevelt.

9) Brush off salt once the area is dry. Done!
