Vintage Wedding Tag

Sometimes I have a pretty good idea of what I want to create, but other times it's just a hazy feeling that evolves as it's being made. This tag is an example of the latter. I started off knowing only 2 things - I wanted to use a brayer for the background and use Tim Holtz products.

I originally thought about brayering with brown ink but ended up choosing gray acrylic paint instead. Then I decided to blend some Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide with the gray to fill in the gaps, but this color is new to me and ended up being browner than I expected! However, I ended up liking the overall look and the Frayed Burlap looks almost cream colored in many areas.

Next, I chose various stamps from Tim Holtz Butterfly Melange and used a dark gray ink to make a collaged look. I really liked how it was going and thought about stopping, but also wondered how it would look with a layer of texture paste through a stencil... so I went for it and hoped I wasn't about to ruin everything, haha. I do love texture paste though, and I love the subtle look of the roses and leaves.

For the Faceted Heart, I used the same gray acrylic paint as the background but added a wash of black watercolor on top to darken the color. Overall, I'm really pleased with the final result and think this tag would be lovely paired with a wedding or anniversary gift!
